Website Design Process | The Grand Hotel Mornington
An iconcic landmark on the Peninsula, we were excited to have the opportunity of creating the website for The Grand Hotel in Mornington. In the brief, we discussed highlighting the history of this business and building in a fresh modern way. We chose to tell the story of The Grand Hotel through the website with the inclusion of ’story’ sections, this allows the user to go on a journey as they move down the page and encourages them to keep scrolling.

Skills Website Design
A modern feel was needed for The Grand Hotel’s new website and we were thrilled to show the client that history could blend well with a clean fresh look. We wanted the website to appeal to all ages whether the user is looking for a quality dinner out or the latest band showing. A rough hand-drawn font for headings pulls the reader in and gives the page real energy and spunk. The design features bold photographic backgrounds with overlaying text and clean white banners to keep the page simple for the users.
The Grand Hotel is well known for it’s beautiful dining and a place where you can watch the world go by whilst enjoying lunch or dinner. On sunny days the alfresco street dining is a big draw card. We have integrated a 360-degree video that showcases the dining room right through to the bar and bistro so the user can really get a feel for the space they will be visiting. The menus are listed in full, including wine menus and are live so users can send them as link to friends and they don’t need to be downloaded to be viewed.
What’s Live Page
The Grand LIVE offers a stylish destination bringing an exciting and diverse range of live music to the Mornington Peninsula. This is an integral part of the website that allows clients to look forward in the event calendar to see all the different types of musical acts that are coming up. We have also included a ‘past events’ filter that shows the acts from the previous months. We have also integrated several live videos of acts that have performed at The Grand LIVE.
There are several options throughout this page to purchase tickets saving the user the time to scroll through the acts or the page to find just one ‘purchase tickets’ link. Users also have the option here to sign up for a Gig guide newsletter to keep them informed of upcoming events.
When creating the website it was so important to reflect a sense of history and yet showcase the young vibrant crowd this venue attracts. We have used an ambient background image as the header that the logo really stands out on and shows that a historical building can be made to feel modern and contemporary. The images used throughout give a warm and welcoming feel that is synonymous with The Grand Hotel.
